Because Mercury is so difficult to photograph due to its proximity to our Sun, if you wait long enough, you can see it transit in front of our star! This image, taken on May 9th, 2016 shows little Mercury, the small round dot just below the center, crossing the Sun's disk. The morning clouds helped provide some drama for this image. The next transit of Mercury, to be seen from the United States, will be on May 7th, 2049 and I will be 89 years old! Hope my eyes stay healthy for the next crossing.
